Asociación Venezolana de Padres de Niños con Cáncer,
Caracas
Hospital
de Niños "JM de los Ríos", Caracas
Instituto Oncologico "Dr Luis
Razetti", Caracas
These three Caracas-based organizations will mark World Cancer
Day with a campaign called "Globos de Esperanza" (balloons of hope), aimed at a
great national mobilization in support of children and young people living with
cancer.
Cancer affects roughly 1,200 Venezuelan children every year and
is the second cause of death among adolescents. The main problem is late
diagnosis, due to lack of public awareness of the symptoms.
"Globos de Esperanza" is a virtual, web-based campaign (http://www.oncoped.org.ve/) offering
everyone the chance to write a message of hope and solidarity and launch a
balloon.
Also planned for World Cancer Day is a series of cultural
activities, including a concert by the Orquesta Sinfonica Infantil (youth
orchestra).
